Goals and Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will have a working knowledge of the scope of the job of director of an early childhood facility and be able to develop written personnel policies; assess the adequacy of personnel policy statements; know what subjects should and should not be addressed when interviewing prospective staff members; conduct effective interviews of prospective staff members; understand and be able to apply effective means of communication with staff members including techniques for making negative feedback helpful; understand and be able to apply effective techniques to enhance staff members’ job satisfaction; conduct effective staff meetings; evaluate staff; build a team attitude among staff members; understand and be able to apply effective problem solving techniques; be able to effectively manage change within an early childhood facility; understand the director’s role in financial planning in an early childhood facility; understand the components of financial planning; understand the differences in perspectives of the board of directors, the director, and the staff; and be able to communicate with and work effectively with the board of directors.
