Description

This course provides information about creating a safe sleep environment in the childcare setting. It presents an overview of the risk factors for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related causes of infant death and educates childcare providers about ways to reduce the risks. Participants will gain a greater understanding of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), as well as other sleep-related causes of infant death, and will learn specific strategies to reduce the risk. They will learn how to create a safe sleep environment in the childcare setting, as well as tips for talking with parents and other family members about creating a safe home sleep environment.

*This training meets the Child Care Services-Licensing requirement for safe sleep training.

The learner will:
• Define Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and differentiate it from other types of Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUIDS).
• Differentiate myths from facts about SIDS.
• Create a safe sleep environment and reduce the chance of sleep-related infant death.
• Respond appropriately to four common concerns about placing babies to sleep on their back.
• Compare current sleep practices with safe sleep practices.
• Develop strategies to improve the safety of current sleep practices.
