This course we will exploring the value in creating Out of School Time (OST) environments where children/youth feel a sense of belonging, of being appreciated and accepted. We will discuss ways to cultivate respectful and supportive relationships. Supportive relationships are the heart of community and the best "bully prevention". Participants will be learn strategies to develop a culture of "caring" through positive adult-child/youth, child/youth-child/youth connections that helps to create inclusive, nurturing environment where all staff and child/youth feel safe.

Goals and Objectives

1. Create an emotionally safe learning culture to enhance respect and social responsibility
2. Use cooperative strategies that boost student connection, empathy, and promote inclusion
3. Expand student perspective taking, cultivate empathy, and build social-emotional learning (SEL)
4. Build community that encourages safety (physical and emotional), connectedness, belonging, and engagement.
5. Use practical strategies to create a "bully free" environment where all staff and children are empowered.
